I spent a little time thinking about why the libertarians are so marginalized, and concluded the following.
Their philosophy is unbounded. They are for minimum government, but fail to crisply define what that minimum is and getting consensus with the larger populace that it’s sufficient. They are for personal freedom, while refusing to acknowledge the places where that freedom steps on the rest of the populace.
Believe it or not, as bad as the two big parties are today, I believe they do recognize conflicting interests and the need for a balance. They do differ on where that balance should be, but they at least they do recognize it.
